Kupwara: The non-functional fountain in Kupwara’s central square has been a source of frustration for residents over the past three years. Local citizens are now calling for immediate action to either restore the fountain or replace it with a Chinar tree, a symbol of Kashmir’s natural heritage.
The fountain, once a central feature of the town, has remained in disrepair, depriving the community of its aesthetic and recreational value. “The fountain has been neglected for too long. It’s disheartening to see such an important part of our town left in ruins,” said a local resident.
In response to the prolonged inactivity, residents have proposed an alternative. “If the authorities cannot restore the fountain, we urge them to plant a Chinar tree in its place. The Chinar tree not only holds cultural significance but also provides much-needed greenery and shade,” suggested another community member.
Local authorities have yet to comment on the issue. However, the mounting public pressure is expected to prompt a response. The restoration or replacement of the fountain is seen as a crucial step in maintaining the town’s charm and enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
Residents hope that their call for action will lead to a swift resolution, ensuring that the heart of Kupwara once again becomes a vibrant and attractive space for all.
