Three Arrested in Handwara for Allegedly Honey-trapping Social Media Users for Money

Handwara – In a significant breakthrough, Handwara Police have solved a Facebook cheating case, arresting three individuals involved in the crime. The arrests followed a complaint lodged at Police Station Vilgam regarding a honey trap scheme executed through Facebook, resulting in financial fraud.

Upon receiving the application, a case (FIR No. 43/2024) was registered under relevant sections of law, and an investigation was launched. The police identified and apprehended three suspects: Firdous Ah Tantray, son of Mohd Shafi Tantray; Danish Ah Bhat, son of Gh. Mohd Bhat; and Aaliyan Ah Bhat, son of Ashiq Hussain Bhat, all residents of Dohama Vilgam.

The accused had created a fake Facebook account, posing as a girl to deceive and extort money from unsuspecting victims. The police have seized their mobile phones as part of the ongoing investigation.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant against social media fraud and to avoid sharing personal information with unknown individuals. The swift action of the Handwara Police has been widely praised by the community.
