Growth Sports Academy Triumphs in Inaugural Kupwara Police Women’s Cricket Tournament

Kupwara : The Kupwara Police Cricket Tournament for Women concluded today with a thrilling final match at the Sports Ground, DPL Kupwara, part of the Civic Action Programme-2024. Starting on 11th July 2024, the tournament featured eight women’s teams from across District Kupwara, providing an empowering platform for young female athletes to showcase their talent and encourage greater participation in sports.

The concluding ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Sh. Shobhit Saksena, IPS, SSP Kupwara, who presided over the event and presented trophies and cash prizes to the winning and runner-up teams. The efforts of the players, officials from District Youth Sports, commentators, and organizers from DPL were also recognized. In his address, SSP Kupwara highlighted the importance of such initiatives in promoting women’s sports and providing opportunities for young female athletes to excel.

In the final match, Growth Sports Academy emerged victorious over Lolab Stars by 7 wickets, successfully chasing a target of 105 runs in 10 overs. Aiman Bashir was the standout performer, scoring 57 runs and taking 2 crucial wickets, earning her the Player of the Match title. Her remarkable performance throughout the tournament, with 257 runs and 5 wickets, also earned her the Player of the Tournament award.

The winners were awarded a cash prize of ₹25,000 and a trophy, while the runner-ups received a cash prize of ₹15,000 and a trophy. The event was attended by Sh. Gh Mohd Bhat, JKPS, Addl SP Kupwara, Syed Mujahid-ul-Haq, JKPS, DySP DAR Kupwara, along with other officers and officials from the District Police and District Youth Sports and Services.

The Kupwara Police Cricket Tournament for Women, held for the first time, marks a significant step towards promoting a sports culture among women in the district and highlights the commitment of the Kupwara Police to support and encourage young female talent.
