Lemon and orange saplings planted in Teetwal and Seemari villages
KUPWARA, MARCH 24:Over 50000 saplings of different trees were planted in different blocks of Kupwara district by Rural Development Department & Panchayat Raj under MGNREGA in convergence with Forest department to increase the green cover in the district.
Working on the vision and under the able guidance of Deputy Commisioner Kupwara, Dr. Doifode Sagar Dattatray , RDD planted around 50000 plant and tree saplings in two days in all the blocks of Kupwara district. These saplings included hybrid walnut, Plum, Deodar, Kail, apricot, and male (cotton-free) poplars, orange and lemon.
Interestingly a good number of Lemon and orange saplings were planted in Seemari, Teetwal and other panchayats of sub division Karnah where environment and temperature is conducive for the cultivation of orange and Lemon.
The main objective of this drive was to ensure sustainable development , increase the green cover and make citizens aware and to inspire them to work towards betterment of nature.
“By this vision and initiative of Deputy Commisioner Kupwara, tree cover will increase and farmer’s income can be supplemented” said ACD Kupwara, Hilal Ahmad Mir.
These saplings were planted on barren lands, private agricultural lands, parks, road sides, community lands and mini-forests.
