Srinagar,July 24: The department of Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, likely to order today to suspend biometric authentication to consumers for two months, sources said.
An official source in the department said that the director is likely to order it by the evening today.
“Yes after the reports in media, the department has finally decided to suspend biometric authentication for consumers for ration and order is likely to be served today”, said an official source of the department.
Interestingly, a video has gone viral on social media in which a social activist and freelance Journalist, Pir Azhar, has highlighted how he is being refused to give ration, without biometric authentication.
“See why shall I give biometric in these days, when govermment itself claims that virus is in community transmission mode. Imagine this, when hundreds of people are using same biometric machine”, said Pir Azhar while talking to Kupwara Times.
It is pertinent to mention here that, Kupwara Times, has carried a story on how biometric system of this department can spread coronavirus and also risks the life of storekeepers/chowkidars of ration stores.
Interestingly, the Union and state governments have earlier in April suspended biometric attendances to prevent COVID-19 spread, but the FSC &CA department was using it for consumers for the authentication.
