As COVID Cases Spike, Govt Re-Imposes Lockdown In Kupwara

“Ration will be given but biometric necessary” Director FCS &CA

IRFAN LONE

Srinagar, July 16: Rebutting the allegation that only people who will give their biometric will be provided ration, Director Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Kashmir (FCS&CA), Bashir Ahmad Khan said that ration will be provided to each household but biometric is necessary for ‘One Nation one Ration Card ‘scheme.

Talking to Kupwara Times, over phone the Director said that,

“Head of the family has to use biometric. The ration will be provided to everyone, but anyone from the family must provide authentication”, he said.

The people across the Union Territory have raised concern about the use of biometric as it may further lead to ‘spread the virus’. The union government and state governments have earlier in April have ordered to cancel the use of biometric as most health experts have raised concern over the possible spread of Covid-19 through the biometric machines.

Ironically, the use of biometric in food stores have also raised concern for the possible spread of Covid-19.

“If a single person has coronavirus or is affected with it and he/she uses biometric machine, it can possibly be spread to other people too incase they use this machine. Moreover we have concern for ourselves too. There is no regular checkup for the employees working in the food stores”, said a storekeeper wishing anonymity.

The locals demand that the department must cancel all these biometric for time being and must return to offline mode to prevent spread of covid-19. ‘

In Kashmir division the sudden spike in coronavirus cases have further kneel down the administration as there seems to no end to this pandemic.
