Kupwara Police Organises Workshop to Enhance NDPS Case Investigation Skills of Investigating Officers

In a proactive step towards strengthening the quality of investigations and improving conviction rates in narcotics-related cases, District Police Kupwara today organised a comprehensive workshop on NDPS case investigation for all Investigating Officers (IOs) of the district.

Held at the District Police Office (DPO) Conference Hall, the workshop aimed at equipping officers with advanced skills, legal understanding, and procedural clarity required for the efficient investigation of cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The session featured detailed discussions on key aspects of investigation, including common loopholes that weaken prosecution, legal mandates, evidentiary requirements, and strategies to ensure water-tight cases. A series of case studies of past NDPS cases were also presented to illustrate practical approaches and investigative best practices. Officers were briefed on the Do’s and Don’ts during investigation to avoid technical lapses and procedural errors.

In his introductory address, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kupwara, Mr. Ghulam Jeelani, stressed the critical importance of professional investigation, especially in NDPS cases, and urged all officers and IOs to strive for excellence in evidence collection and case presentation to ensure high conviction rates.

The Chief Prosecuting Officer, Mr. Mohsin khan delivered a detailed and insightful lecture covering various legal and procedural dimensions of NDPS investigations. He also addressed queries from officers and provided legal clarifications and guidance on handling complex investigation scenarios.

The workshop was attended by:
• SSP Kupwara, Mr. Ghulam Jeelani
• Additional SP Kupwara, Mr. Syed Javaid
• Chief Prosecuting Officer, Mr. Mohsin khan
• DySP Headquarters, Mr. Rafee
• DySP Lolab, Mr. Javaid
• DySP DAR, Mr. Gulzar
along with all SHOs, supervisory officers, and Investigating Officers of the district.

Kupwara Police remains committed to capacity-building of its officers and to ensuring a robust, professional approach in tackling the menace of drug trafficking.
