Eight players from Kupwara district participated in the ‘Summer Ice Stock National Championship 2021’ held in Srinagar
Four girls (under 17 years) and four boys (under 17 years and Open category) sponsored by Kupwara Terriers.
The team won 19 medals including 7 gold, 11 silver and 1 bronze.
Kupwara Friday, 17 Sept’ 2021 Kupwara Terriers Commanding Officer, Col Swaraj Bhattacharya, today felicitated the 8 winning players of Kupwara IceStockSport who participated in the ‘Summer Ice Stock National Championship 2021’ held at Sher-e-Kashmir Indoor Stadium, Srinagar from 9 to 12 Sept’21 under the aegis of Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council. Organised by Indian IceStockSport Federation in collaboration with J&K IceStockSport Association the event saw 300 players from 20 states participating in the four-day national championship.
The team from Kupwara (4 girls and 4 boys), sponsored by 160 TA JakRif, bagged 19 medals including 7 gold, 11 silver and 1 bronze in individual and team games.
Aadil Manzoor Peer (25 years Male, Halmatpora) Team Captain, 4 gold medals. Navaid Nabi (18 years Male, Halmatpora) 3 gold, 1 silver medal.
Nuzhat Jan (14 years Female, Batpora) 3 silver medals.Muskaan Sheraz (14 years female, Zangli) 2 silver and 1 bronze medal.Saleeqa Tariq (14 years female, Trehgam) 2 silver medals. Zaheen Mushtaq (17 years female, Trehgam) 2 silver medals. Mohammad Azhar (13 years Male, Sulkote) 1 silver medal.Zubair Ahmed Sofi (19 years Male, Sohipora) 1 bronze medal.
Col Bhattacharya congratulated the young players on their stellar performance and assured them robust support in the future for their training, development and participation in more competitions. He particularly applauded the young girls for not only competing in a relatively unknown sport but also performing admirably.
He spoke at length to the players about their experiences, challenges, requirements and reiterated the importance of sports in creating a positive environment to bring development, peace and harmony to the region.
