Kupwara, August 22: As India is celebrating its 75h year of Independence, a mega event.
Jashn-e-Azadi’ to commemorate the landmark year was held at Chhamkot, Karnah here today.
Hundreds of people from all walks of life came together to celebrate and take pledge to walk and grow united. On the occasion a cultural show was also organised with the captivating musical performances by renowned local performers like Waqar Khan, Shazia Bashir and Tariq Pardesi highlighting the culture of Kashmir and Karnah. Besides the school children of Army Goodwill School, Hajinar and Bhangra troupe of Indian Army also showcased their scintillating performances.
An Indian Army ceremonial band also mesmerized the spectators with their patriotic tunes and synchronised march past.
Fifteen citizens were felicated during the event for their valuable contributions towards nation building in various fields like national security, development, education, healthcare and social service for the upliftment of the people. Four Veer Naris were also honored to recognise their husband’s sacrifice of life in the service of the nation. Post the event lunch was organised for all dignitaries, Ex-servicemen and Veer Naris at the venue.
As a prelude to this two car and bike rallies also took place one each from Kupwara to Tithwal and Anantnag to Tithwal-Chhamkot. They were aimed at promotion of adventure tourism in the beautiful valley of Tangdhar. A Volleyball Premier League also concluded yesterday here as part of series of celebrations for the landmark event. As a follow up mega cricketing event, “Unity Cup’ will be kick starting in Karnah on 24 August with a big representation by 40 teams.
