DC Kupwara reviews pace of progress under JJM

KUPWARA, JULY 13: Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Imam Din today convened a meeting of engineers of Jal Shakti department to review the status of on-going water supply schemes and coverage of households and other institutions including schools, Anganwadi Centres and panchayats under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
The Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned engineers to accelerate the pace of work and ensure that every household of the district gets tape drinking water by September 2022; the deadline given by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
The Deputy Commissioner was informed that the Jal Jeevan Mission is authorised for execution of water supply schemes with estimated cost of less than Rs.1 crore during the current financial year. He was informed that 78 such water supply schemes are being taken up in hand for execution during the current financial year.
The Deputy Commissioner directed engineers that they should have a census of crisis level (level of water scarcity) so that priority shall be fixed on the basis of actual requirement. He also directed them to go for strict action for those persons, misusing the tape water.
Regarding the coverage of households, the meeting was informed that out of total 1.81 lakh households, 86,000 has already been connected, while as, rest of the 95000 households are targeted to be covered under JJM.
It was further given out that out of total 1891 schools, 1454 have been covered under water supply connections, while as, remaining 437 will be covered under JJM.
Likewise, out of 2251 Anganwadi/Balwadi Centres, 1971 centres have been provided tape water and remaining 280 will be covered under JJM.
The meeting was further informed that out of 265 Gram panchayats, 68 have been connected with tape water and rest of the panchayats will be covered under JJM.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the Superintending Engineer to monitor the pace of work at departmental level also as the projects are monitored by Union Ministry of Jal Jeevan Mission.
JD Planning, SE Hydraulic, CEO, DIO, DPO and other concerned were present on the occasion.
