On Occasion of World Environment Day 2021, a day long cleanliness drive and An Environment Awareness Program was organized by The Environmental Bulletin in collaboration with Kupwara Photography Club at Vogbal Karihama Kupwara. Vogbal Karihama is a local tourist place and has frequent Visitors who enjoy their time but unfortunately continuous inflow of tourists has led to littering of plastic waste which has become a serious concern between environmentalists and local residents of this area.
In view of the above said fact we carried out a cleanliness drive and an awareness program in the village. Many volunteers participated in this drive who came from distant places of Kupwara. During the drive organizer of drive Dr Parvaiz Ahmad Rather talked with the local Sarpanch and other residents of the village; in which Dr Parvaiz Ahmad Rather explained the importance of Nature, Natural Resources and how to keep our surrounding clean from solid waste.
Roshan Shehab Photographer also added that we are working for the promotion of different tourist places but littering of solid wastes can have bad consequences on our tourist places. There after they collected waste from roadsides and from main bus stop of the village. Many times, people tend to blame the government authorities for not keeping their neighborhood tidy. But what they don’t realize is that cleanliness is a collective responsibility. Our goal was to help them understand this and involve the citizens at the ground level. Unclean and unhygienic public spaces are not only detrimental to the environment, but also human health. The organization is planning to host more events in future to impact a sustainable change in the community.
