A solemn occasion – The most decorated soldier of Indian Army & ‘Son of the Soil’ of J&K (UT), Nb Sub Chunni Lal, AC(P), VrC, SM was remembered by the soldiers of Pharkian Bde with Cdr laying wreath at the memorial.
The supreme sacrifice of the warrior was 14 years back at the icy heights of mighty Shamshabari. Smt Chinta Devi w/o the brave soldier, his daughter and grand daughter (3yrs old) too graced the ceremony and paid floral tributes. The GOC, Vajra Div reached early morning at the Incident Site along LOC, and presented the soil of the area of encounter to the family as a token of gratitude.
The incident site along LOC was a more somber yet magnificent ceremony. On the Shamshabari Mountain, overlooking the beautiful valley of Kupwara upto Wullar Lake, it felt as if the departed soul still with same unending zeal and dedication guards the motherland tirelessly as a soldier posted in these challenging conditions.
The family of the decorated soldier had a planned stay at Jammu and Pharkian under Army arrangements on its journey to the LOC at Ustad Area ( Kupwara) from Bhaderwah.
