Meeliyal,July 7:In December 1971, the Indian Armed Forces secured a decisive and historic Victory over Pakistan Army, which led to creation of a Nation – Bangladesh and also resulted in the largest Military Surrender after the World War – II. As part of the year-long Swarnim Vijay Varsh Celebrations, four Victory Flames were lit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at National War Memorial on December 16, 2020, which were sent to four cardinal directions.
The victory flame was received with tremendous fervour in Meelyal, Kralpora on Wednesday. The Commanding Officer of Panzgam Battalion received the “Victory Flame” with guard of honour and Military band giving a general salute. The event was attended by prominent civil dignitaries which included prominent public representatives, government officials, Jammu and Kashmir Police as well as by the local leaders. Carrying of the “Victory Flame” by these esteemed guests during the event commemorated their homage to the fallen heroes of the 1971 war and to remember the sacrifices they made in honour of the motherland.
School children from Kralpura, Meelyal and surrounding villages carrying national flags, marched to the beat of military band playing martial tunes. The locals celebrated the passing of the Mashal through their town with a rally march along the Meelyal Kralpura road.
”Cooperation between the civilians and the armed forces makes Meelyal, Kralpura and surrounding villages a peaceful area. We salute the martyrs who lost their lives for their country. Armed forces work 24 hours to protect our borders. We should work together towards peace in Jammu and Kashmir” said Block Development Chairman, Meelyal, Mr Farid Khan.
The grand reception of the “Victory Flame” will be followed by a solemn ceremony to be held at Trehgam War Memorial to pay homage to the fallen heroes of the 1971 war.
