Budgam, June 6: Police Saturday seized a vehicle carrying rice bags ‘illegally’ at Naidgam area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district. However, the driver and another person in vehicle managed to escape from the spot.
Sources told news agency KNT that police stopped a Tata Mobile (JK05A-7661) near Naidgam area and upon search, 25 ration bags were found in it. These bags were being taken to somewhere to sell them in black.
The duo including the driver escaped from the spot while police seized the vehicle and the ration bags.
The area falls under the jurisdiction of police post Soibugh. An employee of Food Department said that the area where the incident occurred falls under Circle B of the Department.
A police official from Soibugh police post confirmed that they have seized the vehicle and ration bags. “An FIR vide number 212/2010 under section 420 has been registered and investigation set into motion.
Meanwhile, a couple of consumers alleged that they were given sub-standard and adultered rice at Maisuma Ration Store here in Srinagar.
“A rice bag was completely adultered. Pebbles were in it and it was black in colour. We don’t know how Food Department supplies such a coarse and adultered rice to consumers and why don’t they complain,” they said. (KNT)
