Srinagar, May 19 : An encounter has started between government forces in Kanebazar Nawa Kadal area of old city Srinagar, police said.
Police sources told news agency, that an encounter starter after a contact was established after a mid-night cordon was launched.
Kashmir zone police also confirmed on its twitter handle that a gunfight has started in Nawa Kadal area of city. A top police officer said that a gunfight is on in Nawa Kadal area of city.
This is after a long lull of almost two years that a gunfight has been witnessed in Srinagar.
Police sources told KT that after initial contact and exchange of firing, an explosion took place after which there was no firing.
Mobile internet service have been snapped in Srinagar as gunfight rages in Nawakadal area between militants and Security forces as precautionary measure.
No firing was heard since early brief exchange of gunfire, sources said.
