People allege Kupwara Tehsil offices for delay in Domicile certificates

Kupwara: At a time when the government of Jammu and Kashmir has issued guidelines to provide Domicile certificate in five days only, in Kupwara people allege that their domicile certificates are not even provided in a months period.

The students who have applied for various government jobs need domicile certificate but, the authorities seem less interested to listen to their plea’s.

“One month have passed since I apply for domicile certificate but, I am still unable to receive my domicile certificate through mail. If in Jammu people get their certificates through mail, what is the problem here in Kashmir?” Alleged Mubashir Ahmad a resident of Kupwara Town who is a college going student.

Students also alleged that Tehsil offices are forcing them to visit tehsils physically where as it should be provided through online mode.

“If during this Covid-19 people are not allowed to assemble, how are they asking as to get certificates physically. They should send it through mail definitely”, said another person Midhat, who also added that her friend from Handwara (Another town in the district) applied after 15 days and she got her certificate in given time.

“If people in Handwara are receiving domicile certificate online why not in Kupwara” she said.

Even though Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha Sunday took strong notice of the 90 percent pendency of online applications for Domicile Certificates and directed the officers to speed up the process through online mode.

“All pending applicants be provided Domicile Certificates within 15 days, and deadline of September 10 is being set, after which no long pendency shall be excused and action against the responsible, underperforming officers shall be taken,” directed the LG.

He also directed to ensure seamless issuance of Domicile Certificates for the PRC holders without requiring additional documents.

When our correspondent contacted Tehsildaar Kupwara Javid Ahmad Zargar, he said “That is not true,we are issuing 100+ certificates on daily basis through offline mode & wherever portal works, online certificates are also issued.our aim is applicants to get certificates as early as possible.

Students have requested Kupwara admin to address the issue on top priority.
