Kupwara:- on the eve of National Sports Day Kupwara Rugby Association joined hands with Indian Army for the promotion of rugby in district Kupwara. The function was organised to felicitate the rugby athletes of district kupwara at Govt Degree College Kupwara. Athletes who have been selected for Inter District Rugby Championship which is scheduled to be held at SK Stadium Bandipora from 31th August 2021 to 1st September 2021 were interacted with by Indian Army, they were appreciated for taking up this unique but tough sport, assured all the support from Army for the Association and were wished very best for the upcoming championship.
On the ocassion many dignitories from Kupwara Rugby Association, GDC, Kupwara and media personnel were also present, where President of Rugby Association ZUBAIR AHMAD SOFI assured to promote and develope rugby sport in kupwara and congratulated all selected players. On the occasion AADIL MANZOOR PEER who introduced the rugby game in kupwara in 2013 were also present. AADIL is representing Jammu and Kashmir Rugby Team since 2007. He is a Level 1 Coach and have played more than 8 Senior National Rugby Championships through out India and is serving the Association as a General Secretary.
AADIL is also hailed for inspiring many youth including girls to take up this sport and he is the coach. Today Kupwara can boast of having 4 teams, senior mens team, under 20 mens team, under 17 boys team and an under 14 girls team. All the teams will be participating in state championship. Bright future for Rugby in Kupwara can be fairly attributed to Mr AADIL for starting it as an Association.
He is also inspiring and coaching youth in Pencak Silat, an Indonesian martial art and Summerstock game where a boys and girls teams each from Kupwara are participating in forthcoming Championships in Srinagar. He has also started kickboxing for students of Kupwara while hockey and basketball are on his planning horizon.
