Kupwara, May 6 2022: The failure of District Administration Kupwara to arrange a garbage dumping facility here has evoked widespread resentment among the locals as heaps of domestic and market waste could be seen lying scattered across the town.
Locals told that this regipora bus stand has been turned into a garbage dumping site with heaps of garbage present on the roadside in many areas due to the non-availability of any proper garbage dumping site.
According to locals, the garbage being collected by Municipal Council Kupwara (MCK) from various areas is also being dumped in regipora bus stand that emanates foul smell, thus making the pedestrian movement difficult.
“Dogs are always seen in many areas as they keep searching for food in these dumps, posing a threat to locals particularly students,” said a local resident, adding that the heaps of garbage have also become breeding grounds for insects.
“The authorities have turned a blind eye towards this issue. Many times, authorities do not lift garbage from the place,” they said.
“The garbage emanates foul smell and has become a health hazard for the people. It also attracts dogs, cattle and insects,” a local said.
They later appealed the concerned authorities to look into the matter at an earlies
