Kashmiri Urologist sets example: Removes 392-gram prostate from a high risk patient

Suhail Khan

A urologist from the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir has set a record for removing 392 grams of prostate, the largest reported in India so far, an official from a private hospital here said.

The technology behind long-distance surgery is now dependable enough to be used more widely, proven by Dr Shahnawaz, a resident of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district by removing a 392-gram prostate from a patient thus setting an example in the field.

Dr Shabir, an anesthetist who was in the team of doctors during the surgery, said that the surgery was done on a high-risk patient but with their dedication and grace of God, the surgery went nicely and they succeeded in removing the 392-gram prostate from the patient.

The doctor told Kashmir Despatch: “I was asked by many people about the size of the prostate that can be called big. With the grace of Allah we have removed a 392-gram prostate from a patient (the largest reported in India) during a surgery done in a Kashmir hospital.”

Earlier, this month a doctor in central Kashmir’s Budgam district claimed to have extracted the world’s longest tooth from a man. The length of the tooth was 37.5 mm, which Dr Tahir Syed, Dental Surgeon at Sub District Hospital Beerwah claimed. Kashmir Despatch
