Poonch, Sept : Army on Friday claimed to have foiled an infiltration bid by “heavily armed Pakistani” militants along the Line of Control in Poonch district.
A defence ministry spokesman said based in Jammu said on the intervening night of 2nd and 3rd September, a group of heavily armed Pakistani militants attempted to infiltrate in Poonch sector(J&K). “The infiltration attempt of Pakistani (militants) was detected by alert troops of Indian Army. The infiltrators were challenged and heavy firing ensued,” the spokesman said in a statement to GNS.
Owing to undulating terrain and heavy undergrowth, he said, the militants managed to break contact and escaped back towards Pakistan administered Kashmir under the cover of darkness. “A thorough search of the encounter site was carried out and a huge quantity of administrative stores, left behind by (them), was recovered and includes clothing, packaged food items and medicines with Pakistani markings”.
He said Indian Army maintains a determined resolve to thwart any infiltration attempts or “nefarious designs by anti national elements.”
