Srinagar, Feb 08 : The outgoing members of the Rajya Sabha Mir Mohammad Fayaz Monday said that the claims made by the Government of India (GoI) at the time of abrogation of Article-370 including Naya J&K, don’t exist and people in the ongoing session was hopeful for the restoration of statehood.
In his last address to the house, Mir, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that when Article-370 was abrogated in August 2019 some other amendments were made including the bifurcation of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir into two separate union territories.
“It was told that the statehood will be restored with the improvement in the situation. A couple of days ago high-speed internet (4G) was restored in J&K but the people expected that during the ongoing session, government will restore the statehood to Jammu and Kashmir,” Mir said.
Mir was talking in response to the Jammu and Kashmir reorganization (Amendment) Bill 2021, the bill that amends the Jammu and Kashmir reorganisation act 2019.
Pointing at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Fayaz said that PM mentioned the DDC, BDC, and Panchayat elections were held in Jammu and Kashmir in a cordial and peaceful atmosphere with no untoward incident.
“If the situation is peaceful instead of 2021 reorganisation bill it would have been better to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
He said that despite 70 years, trains have not reached Kashmir and the stock including fresh fruits, get stuck on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway for many days, “as a result rotten fruits reach the valley”.
“Even these days people in Kashmir get power (electricity supply) for 3-4 hours only,” he said. “I wish all that was claimed on August 5-2019 to build a new J&K and development in the region were reality, but there is no employment. Claims about train in Kashmir, four lanes, eliminate unemployment by 2022 doesn’t exist,” he said.
Mir also raised the issue of Rehbar-e-Khel, home guards, SPO’s and stated that the 61,000 daily wagers were hopeful of a solution in the new J&K but nothing as such has happened.
The MP also said that the two ladies from across the border contested DDC elections at two seats in Kashmir but the counting has been stopped—(KNO)
