On June 1, 2023 a written complaint was lodged by a young woman—name withheld—alleging that she had been sexually assaulted by Aijaz Ahmad Bhat son of Saifudin Bhat resident of Kralpora with the aid of his brother Parvaiz Ahmad Bhat also son of Saifudin Bhat, resident of Kralpora.
In response Women Police Station Kupwara registered FIR No. 14/2023 under the appropriate sections of law and immediately commenced a thorough investigation. During the course of the probe Parvaiz Ahmad Bhat was arrested; he subsequently obtained bail by order of the Hon’ble Court. The primary accused Aijaz Ahmad Bhat however remained at large despite repeated efforts to locate and apprehend him.
Given the gravity of the allegations the SSP Kupwara constituted a dedicated Special Investigation Team—led by the SHO of WPS Kupwara supervised by the DySP (DAR) Kupwara, and overseen by the SSP Kupwara—to ensure swift and decisive action. After sustained and coordinated efforts, the team successfully arrested accusedAijaz Ahmad Bhat on May 2, 2025. He is now in police custody where he awaits further legal proceedings.
