Kupwara, April 20: As part of its ongoing efforts to promote voter awareness and electoral participation, District Administration Kupwara organized a Cycle Rally under Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) at Kupwara on Saturday.
The rally was flagged-off by the District Election Officer (DEO) Kupwara Ms. Ayushi Sudan. DEO was accompanied by the Nodal Officer SVEEP /CEO Kupwara, Abdul Majeed Dar.
The Cycle Race started from the DC Office complex Kupwara and finally culminated near Government Degree College at Bohipora, Kupwara after passing through Bumhama, Mogalpora and Gushi.
Through this Cycle Race, the Students from different educational institutions made efforts to create awareness and motivate the general public, especially first time voters to actively participate in the democratic process.
The DEO speaking, after flagging off the Cycle Race ,told Media Persons that the main aim of the Cycle race was to ensure that every eligible voter is equipped with the awareness, Knowledge and motivation to exercise their right to vote and play a significant role in shaping the democratic process, ultimately on the poll day Kupwara district should have a highest voter turnout which should surpass the national voting turnout average.
The DEO on the occasion urged the general public to use their right to vote and fulfill their civic duty. “It is our responsibility and fundamental duty to participate enthusiastically in upcoming elections so that a responsible government is elected” She said.
The DEO said that multiple events and activities under SVEEP are being organized to aware and educate the voters.
“We are going to speed up the SVEEP activities and have planned the mega events in the coming days in the run up to the LS Polls”.
DEO further said that on April 24 and April 25 Mega plantation drive is being organized in every Polling station of the district. I urge all residents of Kupwara district to participate in the plantation drive and contribute in conservation of forests and protection of the environment besides getting awareness and education about right to franchise.
Ayushi Sudan said that the District administration is planning to organize a mega art exhibition at any suitable place and a SVEEP festival at Tangdhar in coming days.
DEO later felicitated winners of Cycle Race at her office chambers which included Mohammad Abass Chopan,11th class student of BHSS,Drugmulla, (first Position) holder; Adnan Syed Peerzada, 9th class student of KPS Kupwara, (2nd Position), Moomen Nabi, 11th class student of BHSS Drugmulla (3rd position). While interacting with the winners of Cycle Race, DEO congratulated the winners.
The participants expressed gratitude to the DEO for engaging citizens, promoting democratic values and providing them opportunity to raise voter awareness by means of Cycle race and other activities.
