Kupwara : The Cyber Cell of District Police Kupwara has successfully thwarted multiple online financial frauds, recovering a total of ₹3,01,137 for victims.
In the first case, a resident was scammed into losing ₹1,00,000 after being tricked into transferring a small sum via PhonePe under the guise of updating a migration certificate. Acting swiftly, Cyber Cell Kupwara managed to block the transaction, ensuring the entire amount was saved.
In another incident, a victim was duped into transferring ₹4,07,000 to various accounts on the promise of doubling the amount within a month. Thanks to the quick intervention of the Cyber Cell, ₹1,75,337 of the stolen funds were put on hold, and the refund process has been initiated.
A third case involved a fraudster posing as a dental doctor from the United Kingdom, who contacted the victim through Facebook and later on WhatsApp. The victim was tricked into believing that they would receive gifts, leading to a loss of ₹25,800. The Cyber Cell was able to block the transaction, saving the entire amount.
The District Police Kupwara urges the public to remain vigilant against online scams, avoid clicking on suspicious links or SMS messages, and refrain from sharing personal information online. Any suspicious activity should be reported immediately to the National Cyber Crime Helpline Number 1930 or through www.cybercrime.gov.in.
