Asks engineers, officers to ensure piped drinking water to every household under JJM guidelines
KUPWARA, AUGUST 2: Vice Chairman District Development Council (VC-DDC), Kupwara, Haji Farooq Ahmad Mir today convened a meeting of concerned officers and engineers to review the schemes of Jal Shakti department in territorial Constituency Wavoora Lolab.
BDC Wavoora, BDO Sogam, AEE PHE, AEE Mechanical, AEE I&FC, JEs of concerned wings of Jal Shakti, besides, PRIs, Sarpanchs and Ward members of Wavoora constituency attended the meeting.
On the occasion, the Vice Chairman said that water is the basic amenity which is the right of the people and government is meant to ensure the basic amenities like water, power and road to its citizens for their well being.
The Vice Chairman stressed upon the concerned officers and engineers to work with added zeal and coordination and ensure that drinking water is provided to every household of the constituency within the stipulated time frame and guidelines of the Jal Jeevan Mission programme.
The Vice Chairman informed the meeting that he has taken up the issues of essential services especially water supply with the higher ups. He further said that he has submitted a proposal for augmentation of drinking water sources and installation of piped network across the Wavoora Constituency which includes installation of Dug Well at Tangcheck, Saiwan and Wavoora to ensure uninterrupted drinking water to the people.
The meeting held a threadbare discussion regarding the implementation of ambitious Jal Jeevan Mission programme which envisages 100% coverage of households with taped drinking water facility by March 2022.
The meeting was informed that some of the areas of the Wavoora Constituency are connected with the piped network, yet major areas are lagging behind which are to be covered under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
It was given out in the meeting that the task of identification and coverage of uncovered areas will be undertaken by the harvesting season this year and all households of the territorial constituency will be provided taped drinking water within the target period of Jal Jeevan Mission.
Meanwhile, Haji Farooq expressed his gratitude towards the officers at helm of affairs including Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Mr. Imam Din for their necessary support in public service delivery. He appreciated the field functionaries of various departments working in the constituency for serving the people during the challenging times of Covid pandemic.
Later, Haji Farooq visited the home of deceased teenager Abdul Rehman Lone at Sogam who got killed in a drowning incident. He expressed deep sorrow over the death of the boy and expressed sympathies with the bereaved family.
