Sopore: The residents of Dangerpora, Duroo and Shiva areas in Sopore town of Baramulla district are facing immense hardships due to dilapidated road for a decade.
The Roads and Buildings department has not macdamised the road for past ten years leaving them to suffer, local residents said.
“The road, which connects six villages including Duroo and Dangerpora tehsil has almost become non-motorable due to callous attitude of authorities,” said Syed Mehraj, a local resident.
“We are forced to carry patients on shoulders in case of a critical medical emergency as drivers refuse to ply vehicles on the worn-out road. The road has not seen macdamization for a decade,” he added
The locals claimed that even their businesses have been impacted due to worn-out road.
“Why is the department inordinately delaying the macdamization of the road. Why are we made to suffer,” asked Muzamil Shah, a Duroo village resident.
“The upgradation and widening of road from Arampora to Shiva was sanctioned during BJP-PDP government in 2017. But the contractor left the work midway,” said Tahir Shah, a local resident.
The dilapidated road has led to accidents as well.
“Many people have suffered injuries in accidents. The road is dotted with potholes but the department has turned a blind eye to our sufferings,” said a local
Former Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti had ordered upgradation and widening of 10 Km stretch from Arampora to Shiva on March 12, 2017.
But the road to be built at an estimated cost of Rs 17.65 crore is still incomplete.
The residents appealed the Lt. Governor to order immediate upgradation of road, to put an end to their sufferings.
