Srinagar, June 29: Jammu Kashmir Peoples’ Movement Party (JKPM) has demanded the regularization of daily rated, need based, consolidated, contingency paid and NYC workers of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a press statement JKPM Vice president Advocate Syed Iqbal Tahir said that the successive governments in J&K have shown complete indifference towards the plight of daily rated, need based, consolidated, contingency paid and NYC workers. These people have been running pillar to post to seeking their regularization but so far no concrete step has been taken to mitigate their problems. Various political parties have used them as vote banks, but the promises made were never fulfilled.
Iqbal Tahir said that there are over one lakh such employees in J&K working as daily wagers, permanent daily wagers, need based, contingency paid and NYC working relentlessly in various departments like PHE, PDD, Forest, Wild Life, Education, Irrigation, Agriculture and R&B for the last over two decades. “Unfortunately, the successive governments have utterly failed to address their genuine demands.
They get paltry salaries, despite that these employees work as diligently as other regular employees,” he said and added, “They work day in, day out, they have been playing a critical role in ensuring the crucial facilities to people since the onset of COVID-19 crisis.”
Iqbal Tahir said that the government should compassionately address the woes of all the daily wagers and casual laborers employees and iron out anomalies in their pay structure and regularization issues at an earliest.
JKPM also demanded a comprehensive regularizing and wages policy for thousands of daily wagers engaged with various departments of J&K and rehabilitation of the same on different guidelines issued by the Government of India.
