Kupwara, March 3- Over 1,17, 139 children in th e age group of 0-5 years were administered oral Pulse Polio drops on the first day today in the Nation wide three- Day pulse polio vaccination drive in frontier Kupwara district.
For the effective and successful implementation of the program, District Adminstration had made elaborate arrangements across the district despite inclement weather conditions and heavy snowfall in upper belt snowbound areas of the district.
Chief Medical Officer Kupwara, Dr. Ramzan said that out of total 1,30,677 targeted children in the age group of 0-5 , on first day today 1,17,139 were given pulse Polio vaccinations which is around 89.64 percent.
He said that a total of 766 Booths and 17 Transit Points were established, besides, 3064 Workers, 1062 ASHAs and 548 Anganwari Workers were deployed to carry out the Pulse Polio Immunization programme in the district.
He added that “intensive Booth Activity was held today across the district including snowbound areas while House to House Activity shall be held on 4th and 5th March, 2024. Transit sites and Special areas will be covered on all the days from 3rd to 6th March.”
Additional Deputy Commisioner Handwara, Aziz Ahmad Rather inaugurated the Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) Programme, 2024, at the Associated District Hospital of GMC Handwara in presence of doctors and GMC Adminstration. The ADC started the campaign at Handwara Sub Division by administering Polio drops to newborn infants .

BMO Tangdhar, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Qureshi started the campaign at SDH Tangdar by administering the Polio drops to newborn infants.
The District Administration has appealed to the parents to utilise the opportunity to protect their children from polio.
