District administration Srinagar on Wednesday refuted rumours about detection of any omicron case in this summer capital.

When contacted, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Mohammad Aijaz Assad told GNS that the rumours doing rounds are absolutely false. “There is no omicron case in Srinagar”, he said, adding," “Three cases have been sent for genome sequencing. Someone has quoted me out of context”, he said. District administrator Dr. Syed Haneef Balkhi also confirmed that “no such case has been detected from the city”, he told GNS. Notably, Health & Medical Education Department informed of National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Delhi to have confirmed three cases of Omicron – new variant of Covid – have been confirmed from a locality in Jammu on Tuesday – December 21, 2021. India has so far reported 213 cases of the Omicron variant, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare briefing on Wednesday.
