Srinagar, May 19: Two Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militants were killed in encounter with a joint team of police and CRPF in Kanimazar area of Nawakadal here on Tuesday. One personnel each from SOG of police and paramilitary CRPF were injured in the gunfight.

“Two militants have been killed. Both belong to Hizb-ul-Mujahideen,” Director general of Police Dilbag Singh told GNS.

He said that two weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the site.

Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar(IPS) told GNS that the operation was still going.

Earlier, a joint team of Police and CRPF launched cordon and search operation in the area late last night. As the joint team approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering off an encounter. A policeman from Special Operation Group and a paramilitary CRPF personnel were injured during the course of the gunfight, officials said. The operation was suspended due to darkness and resumed at first light today, reaching its peak as the day progressed, the officials said.

Meanwhile, voice calling (except BSNL) and mobile internet services have been suspended in Srinagar district as “precautionary measure”, officials said. (GNS)
