“Misfire” by PSO injured BJP worker creates chaos in Kupwara; no militant attack: Police

Kupwara,July 16: A BJP worker, Mir Ishfaq, who is the son of BJP president Mir Mohammad Shafi, was reportedly injured after PSO’s gun accidentally went off who was accompanying BJP workers.

Reportedly the BJP workers were distributing food kits in Gulgam village of Kupwara district ahead of Eid u Zuha.

A police official while confirming to kupwaratimes.com stated that a PSO ‘misfire’ while other PSO fired out of fear.

“Misfire by one of the PSOs in the car,
Other PSO fired in fear.One bullet got hit in the arm of Ishfaq”, confirmed the police official.

Earlier some media reports have suggested that a militant attack resulted in injury of BJP worker, denied strongly by police.

“That is just misinformation. Nothing of such sort has happened”, said the police official.

Pertinent to mention here, that Ishfaq Ahmad Mir is the son of BJP district president,Mohammad Shafi Mir, who is also head of IT cell Kupwara. He was discharged from hospital till last reports.

Police have filed an FIR in this regard
