Srinagar, Mar 18: Released from extensive detention under stringent law Public Safety Act (PSA) after more than seven months, National Conference (NC) President Dr Farooq Abdullah seemed more concerned about release of PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti instead of his son Omar Abdullah.
Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), Er Nazir Ahmad Yatoo who met freed NC leader recently revealed several developments of political nature. He said during the meeting with NC present, Dr Abdullah seemed more concerned and apprehensive about the health and wellbeing of Mehbooba Mufti.
“I felt Dr Farooq was more concerned about the safety and wellbeing of PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti”, Yatoo said.
He said, “Besides discussing prevalent political scenario of J&K, Abdullah wished to talk with Iltija and her grandmother”.
Yatoo revealed that Abdullah wholeheartedly welcomed me and I, for a short while, felt the need of unity among regional parties in Jammu and Kashmir which was seconded later on by NC chief.
“As we met, Abdullah asked for mobile numbers of Mehbooba’s family. I gave mobile numbers of Iltija and her grandmother and subsequently Abdullah dialed but due to network error, he could not talk.
Terming the NC President Abdullah “tallest leader” in politics of J&K, Yatoo said, he discussed several key issues including the way forward.
He added, the concern of Abdullah could be gauged with this word that Mehbooba should be released first, then Omar.
According to Yatoo, Dr Abdullah said that there is a need to get united from above the party interests so that future of J&K could be saved.
“All regional political outfits should unite at this juncture because we have suffered a huge dent in the rein of BJP”, Yatoo quoted Abdullah as having said.
He further said that during the discussion there was no talk of elections.
Terming the recent meet of Dr Farooq Abdullah with the family members of incarcerated PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti as “purely humane”, Yatoo said the current atmosphere in J&K when all regional political leaders are under detention and confined, playing dirty politics doesn’t suit.
Yatoo hinted out that there will be a “big change” in near future for the interest of people of J&K.
He described the present situation as “uncertain” and “vague” and said people of the region feels suffocated.
“People of J&K are suffocated as their elected representatives had been detained without any charge since August 5, 2019 and as such the democracy, upon which people had faith, was brutally trampled.
PDP leader said that it is not necessary to contest elections for a person who want to serve his society and I think leader is one who works indiscriminately, tirelessly and with zeal to make people happy.
Terming the “recommendations” a main cause of corruption, PDP leader said that corruption begins when an MLA indulges in law and order affairs. He is an elected representative by people and he should keep concentrating on “constitutional matters” only.
