Just as the voices of Kupwara have remained unheard for decades, the same seems to be the case with one of its tehsils — Kralpora. Poor road conditions, inadequate drainage systems, and the lack of basic public services have long been major concerns for the people of the area.
However, what is most alarming today is the deteriorating wooden bridge that connects residents to the Kralpora Sumo Stand. This bridge was constructed by the Drivers’ Association of Kralpora to make transportation easier for passengers, but over time it has become a serious safety concern. Every day, young people, elders, and children cross this bridge out of necessity, despite the risks involved.
The authorities must take immediate action to ensure the safety of the public. Among the residents, there is a common sentiment that unless a major tragedy occurs, no serious attention will be paid to this issue. Such thinking reflects the growing frustration and helplessness of the people.
Another major concern is the unprotected stretch of road leading from the fruit market to the bridge. The absence of proper safety barriers makes the area highly vulnerable. In the event of an accident, a vehicle could easily plunge into the river, leading to severe consequences.
The people of Kralpora deserve safe roads, proper infrastructure, and basic public facilities. Their concerns should not be ignored until disaster strikes.
Let the voices of Kralpora be heard. Let these words reach the concerned authorities. Speak up, because it is your right. Speak up for safety. Speak up because it is necessary.
