Kupwara: A vehicle loaded with illicit timber was seized on Thursday evening by the officials of forest department near Geerhati bridge of Kupwara district.
Divisional Forest Officer Kamraj Zahid Aslam told kupwaratimes.com that acting on a tip off about the movement of a vehicle with illicit timber in Geerhati Village. The officials of North Lolab Range under the supervision of Range Officer North Lolab laid a naka near Geerhati bridge on parallel Byepass.
“The vehicle was intercepted at Geerhati bridge, the driver on seeing the officials of forest department stopped the vehicle and managed to flee from the spot by taking the advantage of darkness . The officials on job after searching the vehicle found illicit timber of Deodar 05 logs = 29 cfts . The vehicle in question along with illicit timber got driven to seized depot Kamraj after completing all the codal formalities.
FIR is being registered for initiation of criminal proceedings as well”. Aslam added
