KUPWARA, MARCH 16: The Department of Fisheries Kupwara organized an intra-district exposure-cum-training tour for a group of 25 newly covered fish farmers today under ATMA (Agriculture Technology Management Agency) 2022-23 scheme .
The chief Agriculture Officer Kupwara, Gulam Mohammad Dhobi in presence of Assistant Director Fishries, Sajad Hussain Dar, today flagged off the group of newly covered farmers.
The group will visit different fish farms of the district including Government as well as private fish units to learn the ways and means adopted for better fish production.
Addressing the Farmers, the Chief Agriculture Officer Kupwara, expressed that such exposure visits are organized to acquaint farmers with new technologies in the Fisheries sector. He appealed to farmers to learn the latest know-how of good Aquaculture practices during their visit to leading Trout and Carp fish farms.
He called for replicating the success stories of the farms visited during the tour in their farming practices by implementing the acquired knowledge in their respective farms and also share their knowledge to the fellow farmers for enhancing their income and upliftment of their socio -economic condition.
On the ocasion Assistant Director, Fishries said that special attention has been given to the capacity building of the farmers under different schemes wherein the farmers acquire technical skills in the field of fish farming and develop entrepreneurship in aquaculture.
While interacting with the farmers on the occasion, Assistant Director said that the visit has been organized for making the farmers aware of the latest techniques for commercial Aquaculture and entrepreneurship development, recent advances in fish farming and cultivation of different fish species on scientific lines in Kupwara district.
He impressed upon them to interact with the farm scientists, experts, and extension functionaries and progressive fish farmers of the district to get acquainted with up to date methodologies in fish farming for increasing their production
Kupwra district is bestowed with natural resources and there is a tremendous scope of fish farming particularly Trout fish farming.
He said that the farmers will be imparted practical knowledge for better management regarding feeding, cleanliness and better growth of fish under latest technology. He said adoption of new practices in the field can provide employment and entrepreneurship avenues to unemployed youth of the district.
Newly covered fish farmers will visit to Trout rearing unit Zoonershi Chowkibal, Carp fish farm Kohru, Trout fish farm Moonabal, Trout rearing unit Kultari , Trout fish farm Nowgam on their day long exposure tour.
