KUPWARA, NOVEMBER 04: The Geology and Mining Department Kupwara, today on third consecutive day continued its efforts to implement the ban on illegal extraction of minor minerals from the district. The District Mineral Officer (DMO), Kupwara, Mumtaz Ahmad Shah along with team of police and other concerned officers visted Nallah Mawer in Handwara sub division and disconnected all approach link roads leading to Nallah Mawer by digging deep trunchs to completely restrict the movement of JCBs, Tractors, Tippers and other means of transport.
The team also erected signboards at various sites indicating that ‘any kind of extraction is prohibited in this area, violation will be penalised’.
The PRIs and local people present on the occasion, expressed their satisfaction for the step taken by district administration to safeguard the mineral wealth of the district.
On the occasion, DMO gave general awareness regarding the benefits of ban on illegal extraction from nallahs, vis- a -vis, Mining Plan which envisages all protection for ecology and environment.
Earlier, District Administration Kupwara launched a comprehensive drive against illegal extraction and transportation of stones and other minor minerals across the district and on the instructions of District Magistrate, Kupwara, Anshul Garg, District Mineral Officer, visited Khazaan Matti, Shumnag and Gogloosa and disconnected all approaching link roads leading to these stone quarries.
