IDPD: DC Kupwara urges to harness telent of specially abled persons

KUPWARA, DECEMBER 03: The International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) was observed across district Kupwara with larger participation of specially abled persons, students, PRIs and Officers of Education and other concerned departments.

The main function was held at the Auditorium of Boys Higher Secondary School, Kupwara, where Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Imam Din participated as Chief guest. The SSP Kupwara, DDC Member Kalaroos, Chief Education Officer Kupwara, District Information Officer Kupwara and other concerned were present at the occasion, besides, a large number of students, specifically abled persons and employees of Education Department. In his address, Deputy Commissioner Kupwara highlighted the importance of observing the day and said the specifically abled persons are the important segment of our society and to lookafter them is prime duty of every individual. He said December 03 is Internationally being observed for the welfare of specially abled persons and to promote their rights and raise awareness about their well-being. DC said Government as well as Associations are working for the upliftment of this important section of the society and various skill development programmes have been devised for these persons and urged upon stakeholders to put all possible efforts for harnessing the telent of specially abled persons, especially students to encourage them to stand on their own legs. Imam Din directed CEO, Kupwara to ensure periodical competitions among the specially abled students and give them appreciations so that their morale could be uplifted. He gave an example with the theme that those who try to uplift others are virtually uplifting themselves and likewise those who try to downsize or supress others are infact themselves going down. Deputy Commissioner said that the International Day of Persons with Disabilities was also observed at Zonal Education Level of the district, besides , at Town Hall Kupwara and Town Hall Handwara. The DDC Member Kalaroos, SSP Kupwara, CEO Kupwara and other concerned also spoke at the occasion. A variety of cultural programmes were presented by the students and specially abled children. Later, the awards were given among the best performers at the occasion.
