Geelani Didn’t Resign, Parted Ways With APHC, Will Continue To Lead: Spokesman

Our Reporter

Srinagar: Official Politcal representative of seniormost Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani today clarified that the founder and Patron of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat didn’t resign but parted ways with All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC)- which is a amalgam of various pro-freedom political parties.

The Official Political representative of Geelani, Syed Abdul Gilani, whose name is also mentioned in the letter Geelani issued to other constituents of  APHC, said that he (Geelani) has not resigned or quit as has been reported in sections of media. “He has parted ways with APHC. He will continue to lead the struggle till his last breath,” he said.

He said Geelani Sb continues to be Patron and Founder of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat while the outfit’s current chairman is Ashraf Sehrai. Sehrai took over from Geelani in August 2018.

Tehreek-e-Hurriyat is the key constituent of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (G).

A senior Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader told that Geelani Sahab continues to be the member of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat. “He didn’t resign from membership of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat. We wanted to meet Geelani Sb, but police is not allowing us to go to meet him at his Hyderpora residence,” said the senior Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader, who wished not to be named.
