KUPWARA, JULY 15: As part of the ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse and promote a drug-free society, the District Administration Kupwara today organized a Mega Anti-Drug Awareness Programme at Government Degree College (GDC) Handwara.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Handwara, Javed Naseem Masoodi, presided over the programme. Principal, GDC Handwara, Prof. Aijaz Ahmad, Honorary Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) J&K, G. A. Qureshi, officers and representatives from various departments, faculty members, and a large number of students attended the event.
Addressing the gathering, the ADC underscored the need for collective efforts to eradicate the menace of drug abuse from society. He emphasized that awareness, community participation, and active involvement of educational institutions are essential in safeguarding the younger generation from the harmful effects of narcotic substances. He urged students to become ambassadors of the anti-drug campaign and spread awareness among their peers and communities.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal GDC Handwara, Prof. Aijaz Ahmad, highlighted the vital role of educational institutions in shaping responsible and informed citizens. He encouraged students to adopt healthy lifestyles and remain vigilant against the dangers of substance abuse.
Honorary Secretary, IRCS J&K, G. A. Qureshi, also addressed the participants and stressed the importance of counselling, awareness, and community support in preventing drug addiction. He called upon all stakeholders to work together to build a healthier and drug-free society.
The programme featured expert lectures, awareness sessions, and interactive discussions aimed at sensitizing students about the physical, psychological, social, and legal consequences of drug abuse. Participants also pledged to contribute towards making their communities drug-free.
The District Administration reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying awareness initiatives across the district to effectively tackle the menace of drug abuse and promote a healthy and responsible society.
