2G mobile internet services restored in Kashmir Valley

Srinagar: The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday urged the Union Territory (UT) administration to restore broadband internet service in Kashmir valley as people continued to suffer since August 5, post abrogation of Article 370.

Media In-charge of BJP Manzoor Bhat in a statement here on Friday urged the administration to restore broadband internet in Kashmir, as people are facing difficulties in it’s absence.

He said the administration should restore the broadband connections immediately, so that people would not face more problems.

”Despite purchasing costly firewall equipment, the administration is yet to restore internet in Kashmir. How long people have to wait for its restoration,” he questioned.

Mr Bhat said it has been more than six months now and the authorities are yet to announce the exact dates for the restoration of brandband in valley.

All communication network, including landlines, were snapped in the Jammu and Kashmir. However, the mobile and broadband services were restored in Jammu and Ladakh within a week, but people in Kashmir continued to suffer.

It was only after about a month that landlines were restored in Kashmir, while post paid mobile service was restored after about two months.

Last month, 2G internet service was restored in the valley on January 25 on pre and post paid mobiles and the customers got access to whitelisted sites. The social media network remained banned in the valley.

However, in the absence of high speed internet and broadband, people, including media persons, doctors and other professionals, besides students, continued to suffer.
