As snowfall block roads, villagers carry patient on make-shift stretcher to reach hospital in Chandoosa Bla

Peerzada Waseem

Baramulla, Jan 03 (KNO): As the heavy snowfall blocked many roads across Kashmir, the people in Takiya Yosif Shah Chandoosa area in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district had to carry a patient on a make—shift stretcher and cover almost 15 kilometers by foot to reach the hospital.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the roads continued to remain blocked in the village, thereby making the people especially patients to suffer.

The villagers were compelled to carry a patient on a make—shift stretcher as they had no other option due to lack of road connectivity following heavy snowfall, locals said.

The patient namely Mohammad Ashraf Sheikh had received injuries when he was walking on the road and slipped amid fresh snowfall, they said.

They said the patient was taken to Chandoosa Primary Health Care where doctors referred him to Baramulla hospital, adding that soon after reaching hospital, the doctors referred him to Srinagar’s B&J hospital for specialized treatment.

“Due to lack of road connectivity, the villagers had to carry the patient from the village to Baramulla hospital on a make—shift stretcher,” family told KNO.

They said that they had to cover almost 15 kilometers by foot to reach the hospital.

“We have many times brought the issue into the notice of district administration but they have turned deaf ears to our repeated pleas,” the locals said.
