Jammu, May 25: Anti Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) on Tuesday claimed to have arrested two persons and recovered 6000 bottles of psychotropic drugs from their possession.
ANTF in a statement issued said that it intercepted a truck bearing registration number PB08-CP5896 on a specific input and recovered 6000 bottles of Scheduled Psychotropic Drugs and arrested driver Karan Kumar of Balachor and Co driver Yashpal of Village Karawar, Balachor Distt Nawasher, Punjab.
“On receiving a specific input that a truck coming from Delhi to Jammu and Kashmir is illegally carrying scheduled drugs, the teams of ANTF swung into action and laid nakas at various places,” the statement said, adding that the team was able to intercept the truck and on thorough search of the truck, a huge quantity of scheduled psychotropic drug Chlorophenamine Maleate Codiene Phosphate (locally called Corex) was recovered.
“A total of 6000 bottles packed in 50 boxes were recovered and seized on spot,” ANTF said, adding that the two persons were arrested and a case under relevant sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered, adding that this is one of the biggest seizures of such drugs in J&K in recent times.
ANTF is investigating further details of this interstate drug racket including the forward and backward linkages of these drug smugglers, it said, adding that more arrests are expected.
Meanwhile, ANTF appealed people to share more such information of drug dealers so that this menace is uprooted from the society—(KNO)
