Srinagar, Oct 07 : Nisser Kour was busy in her daily household work when a news flash about the killing of a principal of Boys Higher Secondary School in Srinagar’s Eidgah shook her to the core.
Inconsolable, Kour repeatedly asked one question -What was the fault of her daughter-in-law?
“She never did anything wrong. Why was she killed so ruthlessly,” Nisser said. “Shoot me also. I don’t want to live.”
Unknown gunmen on Thursday shot dead Supinder Kour, along with her colleague Deepak Chand on the premises of a school on the outskirts of Srinagar.
Kour was a resident of Alochi Bagh in Srinagar, while Chand was from Jammu who was living on a rented accommodation in a Batamaloo area.
Kour’s colleagues said that they were on a tea break when the incident took place.
“The duo was having tea in the compound of the school, while the rest of us were inside the teaching room. We heard the gunshots but couldn’t dare to come out,” one of the teachers told the news agency—
“It was only after locals gathered inside the premises of the school, we mustered the courage to come out,” they said.
In the past one week, seven civilians have been killed in the valley, six of them in Srinagar city only.
On 02 October Majid Ahmad Gojri a resident of Chattabal Srinagar was killed in Karanagar area of Srinagar while as Mohammad Shafi Dar a resident of Batamallo was killed in his locality.
In another incident, on 05 October, Dr Bindroo Lal a chemist, Virendar Paswan a non local street vendor and Mohammad Shafi Lone president Sumo drivers association Naidkhai were killed in Iqbal Park area, Lal Bazar and Shah Gund Hajin in Bandipora area respectively.
Around 300 km away, Deepak Chand’s family in Jammu also couldn’t comprehend the news that their beloved son was shot dead.
“I talked with him on the phone at 11 am and he was in the school. He had harmed no one. Why was he killed,” Chand’s wife lamented
She said that the family was reluctant to let Chand travel to Srinagar, but he insisted on joining duty at the earliest.
Meanwhile, condolences pour in from all walks of life with the bereaved families.
