Handwara : Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference President and MLA Handwara, Sajad Lone, on Saturday criticized PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti over her recent remarks invoking the term “jihad” during a workers’ convention in Kupwara.
Mehbooba Mufti had reportedly praised Iran’s concept of jihad, drawing sharp reactions from political opponents. Responding to her comments, Lone questioned her interpretation of the term, alleging that she was attempting to stir public emotions by referencing the deaths of Kashmiri youth.
He further argued that drawing parallels with Iran’s model of jihad was problematic, claiming that Iran’s leadership has historically involved significant sacrifices of its own people. Lone asked whether Mufti would encourage such sacrifices among Kashmiri youth or be willing to endorse similar paths for her own family.
“What is not acceptable for her own children cannot be justified for the youth of Kashmir,” Lone said, accusing the PDP leader of politicizing the deaths of young people in the region.
The remarks have added to the ongoing political debate in Jammu and Kashmir, with leaders continuing to exchange sharp statements over sensitive issues.
