Kupwara: Frequent electricity cuts irks people, students forced to study in candle lights

Kupwara:- At the time when exams are going on, frequent power cuts irks citizens of kupwara district in general and students in particular.

The department which claims to provide electricity to it’s consumers on regular basis and governments tall claims to provide basic facilities to citizens, seems mere lip services but no one actually pays any heed.

“It frustrates you when you have to make schedule according to electricity schedule and even now that is not being followed. For past few days i have studied with candle light as there are frequent electricity cuts in the town”, said a PG student, Musaba Yousuf, whose exams are scheduled for next week.

Not only students the residents blamed Power Development Department (PDD) officials for insensitive towards peoples basic necessities.
“Every month we pay huge bills. Ask department how much ever household paid last month. We were charged three times more last month in town. Why are we still facing these problems and they enjoying salaries without any accountability”, said a resident of Kupwara Town, working as a shopkeeper in Kupwara Market.

However an official on condition of anonymity said that electricity demand has risen to two times what we were supplying in summers.
“I am explaining this to you in simple way. We were providing 60 KW electricity to Kupwara division,as winters have approached it has reached to 120 KWs. We are still trying our best to not have more load shedding. InshaAllah this issue will be resolved soon”, said this official.
