Kupwara: Journalists Association Kupwara, in a general members’ meeting, dissolved the previous body and, after consultation with members, announced fresh elections in accordance with the constitutional requirements of the association.
A four-member election commission has also been constituted, which will be headed by journalist Tasaduq Hussain and has been mandated to conduct the election in the spirit of the Constitution and democratically. The commission has also been given special powers by the general body to scrutinise new membership requests thoroughly. Members highlighted the core issues faced by journalists and agreed that the integrity crisis needs serious redressal and that scrutiny within the ranks must be ensured.
The Election Commission will soon announce the election dates.
