DLSA organized valedictory function of drug de-addiction


Pr. D&S Judge stresses for involvement of all stakeholders to curb drug menace

KUPWARA, MAY 31: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Kupwara today organized valedictory function of week-long drug de-addiction and counselling for students campaign here at Town Hall Kupwara.
The Principal District & Sessions Judge Kupwara, Tasleem Arief presided over the function as chief guest.
Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Khalid Jahangir; SSP Kupwara, Yougal Manhas, Secretary DLSA and CEO Kupwara, besides, students participated in the function.
Speaking at the occasion, the Principal District & Sessions Judge highlighted the ill effects of drug abuse/ drug addiction and stressed the need for involvement of all stakeholders to generate mass awareness among the public to save the youth from the drug menace. He said the drug addiction spoils the life and youth of a drug addict, besides, creating socio-economic problems which lead to more severe conditions for the society. He said Judiciary and Police are doing the good job to control the menace but there is a need to generate large scale awareness among the masses especially youth.
Calling upon the youth as ambassadors to further disseminate the message among the people about ill effects of drug menace, the Principal District & Sessions Judge asked students to be interactive with their parents, friends, elders and share with them their issues if any. He advised them not to be deseparative in any case, else dream for high aim and know the purpose of life, set targets and goals in a right direction and follow them earnestly so that a good nation could be build.
Secretary DLSA, Muzamill Ahmad Wani while giving details of the weeklong campaign said that District Legal Services Authority Kupwara organized a week long awareness campaign on drug de-addiction in various schools of district Kupwara during which awareness regarding ill effects of drug addiction and methods of drug de-addiction were disseminated among the participants, besides, the students participated in slogan writing, essay writing, painting and oration on the topic. The students were also given counselling for choosing their career.
On the occasion, SSP Kupwara, Yougal Manhas; SP Handwara, Seema Nabi, CEO Kupwara, Cluster Head J&K Bank also spoke and stressed for eradication of drug menace.
Among others, Chairman CWC, Special Cell for Women, Social Workers, School children and other concerned attended the function.
Later the Principal District & Sessions Judge gave away the awards among the officers who play a pivotal role in the successful conduct of awareness campaign.
Anti-smoking day was also celebrated and students had detailed interaction on career counselling with SP Handwara and BDO, Amina Lateef.
