Kupwara: Cyber Cell of Kupwara has successfully recovered ₹84,484 lost in an online financial fraud case. Upon receiving a complaint about the fraud, the Cyber Cell promptly collected evidence and information from the victim. The fraud involved a fake WhatsApp call where the victim was deceived into paying a pending school fee and further directed to open their PhonePe account, resulting in the loss of ₹84,484. Using advanced cyber tactics, the Cyber Cell was able to block the transaction, putting the amount on hold and effectively saving the entire sum.
The District Police of Kupwara urges the public to remain vigilant against online fraud. Citizens are advised to avoid clicking on suspicious links, ignore fake SMS credit messages, refrain from installing unauthorized apps, avoid video calls from unknown numbers, and be cautious while sharing personal information online. Any suspicious activities should be reported immediately to the National Cyber Crime helpline at 1930 or via www.cybercrime.gov.in.
